Happy Red Friday!
This week kindergarten, first, and second grade artists discovered several of the supplies available in the sculpture center as we worked on creating in three dimensions. Second through fifth grade students completed their sketchbooks and name designs while my third, fourth and fifth grade artists began exploring our drawing center and all the options available to help them grow and work on drawing independently.
Moving forward my younger students will begin exploring a variety of art supplies and materials as we work our way through the elements of art: line, shape, form, value, color, texture, and space. My older students will also be reviewing the elements of art but will be starting off with wire sculptures. I hope you enjoy some photos of our younger students exploring sculpture and stay tuned for more creating in the art room!
Artfully Yours,
Mrs. Foster

We’ve made it through the first two weeks and at this point all classes are working hard on learning art procedures. At the end of next week we will be ready to begin working on our first projects of the year– yahoo!
Kindergarten and first grade artists learned all about loose parts and had fun experimenting with portraits as they created their own silly faces. We also made first day portraits in grades K-2. Students are now exploring our sculpture center and all the ways we can build to make art.
Third, fourth, and fifth grade artists started off creating one pagers in groups that reviewed the elements of art. They are now working hard on creating their art portfolios and sketchbooks as well as learning proper care of our drawing center resources. All in all we are off to a great start!
At this point I have created an Artsonia account for all of our students and have sent an invite to parents through email. If you haven’t received an invitation to join Artsonia please let me know. Here is the link if you would like to join on your own: Artsonia account later in the year or you can join now by clicking the link: https://www.artsonia.com/connect/82WFX8KW
As always the art room could use donations of recyclables! Here is a list of items we will be using throughout the year:

Welcome from the art room! I am excited to be back after a busy, fun-filled vacation with family and friends. I hope you all enjoyed your summer and are ready to join me in a fantastic year of creating!
Once again we will be using Artsonia to document our artwork throughout the year. Artsonia is an online portfolio site that allows students to upload their artwork to share with families and friends. It also allows me to create a portfolio for each student for the duration of their time at English Landing. How amazing is that?! I will be sending out emails to connect to your child’s Artsonia account later in the year or you can join now by clicking the link: https://www.artsonia.com/connect/82WFX8KW
Let’s talk stains. Art is fun, but also messy. One of the biggest issues we have in the art room is stained clothing. The best resource I have found for stain removal is Crayola’s Website. They have suggestions on how to get rid of every type of art supply on every kind of material. So helpful!
The art room is in need of your recyclables! If you have any of the following items we are in need of them for upcoming sculpture units.
I am so looking forward to starting the year off right Eagles! Let’s make it the most creative year yet!

One of the items most of us have in our home that make great recycled art are water bottles! Here is an easy 3D fish you can make from a water bottle at home. I recommend using permanent markers to decorate your fish if possible but washable markers or paint can work as well. For more ideas on what to do with empty water bottles click here.

People have been making art long before we had paper to draw on. Paper wasn't invented until around 3000BC! It was first made in Egypt and was called papyrus. Today I'm going to show you how to make a very simple paper. If you enjoy the process and would like to try some more complex papermaking techniques check out this video from ArtRageous with Nate.

Happy Form Friday! Form is another word for three dimensional. For the rest of the year we will be focusing on making 3D art, or forms, every Friday. Today we will be making a basic salt dough and then sculpting it into a flower. Next week we'll paint it! Salt dough is similar to play-doh in texture but it will dry hard so you can paint it. You can also put your finished sculpture in the oven at 200 to cure it if you don't want to wait for it to harden. *This idea originally came from Cassie Stephens, an art teacher out of Nashville. You can find her original recipe here.

Non objective art is art that is made up of art elements and principles but does NOT have a recognizable subject or object. An easy way to create non objective art is by tracing shadows. Here is a quick video on the process: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4hx4QP6-iQkwww.youtube.com/watch?v=4hx4QP6-iQk
Some of my favorite non objective artists are Jackson Pollock, Josef Albers, and Bridget Riley.

Weve been celebrating fall at the nest with some pumpkin inspired art this week. In grades 3-5 we've been working hard on our Yayoi Kusama polka dot pumpkins. K-2 students have been studying Vincent Van Gogh and creating our own Starry Night pumpkin patches.
