After looking at some of the tallest buildings in the world including the Burj Khalifa, students used their design thinking skills to create the tallest structures they could.
Kindergarten artists explored 3D forms and design by creating line sculptures.
5th grade artists studied various pop artists and then created self portraits based on pop art style.
4th grade artists studied the art of repousse and then created their own repousse pieces focusing on real and implied textures.
3rd grade artists studied the work of Atlanta based sculptor Kimmy Cantrell and then created cardboard masks based on his work.
2nd grade artists created cityscapes of their neighborhoods using Harlem Renaissance artist Jacob Lawrence's Migration series paintings for inspiration.
2nd grade artists worked in groups and used their knowledge of depth to create a three dimensional cityscapes. Requirements for their cityscapes were to include a: foreground, middle ground, background, and horizon line. This one day activity was in preparation for a larger project focused on Harlem artist Jacob Lawrence.
Kindergarten artists read George Rodrigue's Why is Blue Dog Blue? and studied his paintings. They then created a "blue dog" of their own as they worked on identifying colors.
2nd grade students began their unit on texture by creating the ultimate sandwiches. Their goal was to only use 3D paper techniques for their toppings so their sandwiches would have real texture.
1st grade students worked on creating real texture as they built their texture pizzas.
Kindergarten students made marker prints using line and color patterns. These prints will be the "placemats" for their texture tacos!
4th grade artists used color mixing to create tints and shades in their sports spheres.
1st grade artists studied Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama and her polka dotted art. They then created their polka dotted pumpkin patch based on her work.
3rd grade artists studied the patterns and colors in the work of artist Dean Russo. They then created animal art based on his work.
4th grade artists used the techniques of shading, detail, and one-point perspective to show depth in their art.
Mrs. Grounds class worked on their weaving skills to create busy spiders in adaptive art.
2nd Grade artists studied Brazilian artist Romero Britto and then used their color mixing skills to create Britto style dogs.
Kindergarten artists read the Dot by Peter Reynolds. They then created their own "Dots" in honor of International Dot Day.
First grade eagles learned all about Jackson Pollock the first "Action" painter as they used alternative painting tools to explore color mixing.
First grade eagles studied San Diego based artist Santos Orellana. They then used his abstract line art as inspiration for their own line paintings.
5th grade eagles kicked off the school year by learning about graphic design. They then creating a food portrait using google draw.
New kindergarten eagles started off their school year exploring a variety of art media as they created using different types of lines.
My second grade artists began the school year by studying color theory and Josef Albers color experiments. They then created new colors of their own.
To start off the 2021-2022 school year, my first grade artists learned about how artists used color to express their emotions in their art. They then created portraits based on the zone of regulation.
1st grade artists studied public art and buildings in Kansas City, Missouri and then designed their own cities. Students created a sculpture based on Alexander Calder's "Shiva" located near the Hallmark Center in Kansas City.
1st grade and kindergarten students learned about "Action" Jackson Pollock and his action painting before creating action paintings of their own.
Kindergarten artists learned how to fold, curl, and cut paper to create pop up buildings for their own cities.
2nd grade eagles learned all about Fauve artist Henri Matisse and how he used Bright patterns and colors in his paintings. They then designed a room of their own in his style.
3rd grade Eagles practiced their weaving skills as they created woven creatures using a cardboard loom.
1st grade Eagles learned all about proportions of the human face and figure as they created portraits of their families.
4th grade Eagles studied portrait artist Kehinde Wiley and then created self portraits reflecting his style.
After reading The Colors of Us, Kindergarten artists learned how to mix their own skin tones with paint and then created a portrait of themselves.
5th Grade eagles studied "softies" created by artists Claes Oldenburg and Takashi Murakami. They then designed their own emoji "softie."
5th grade eagles studied pop artists Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein before creating pop art portraits based on Lichtenstein's comic book style.
3rd grade eagles learned about surrealist Marc Chagall and his "dreamscapes." They then created surreal landscapes of their own.
Kindergarten eagles learned about the Middle Ages and then designed a crest to represent themselves. They learned basic sewing skills as part of the process.
2nd grade eagles studied landscapes and architect and landscape painter Hundertwasser. They then created dreamscapes of their own.
4th grade eagles learned about the cubist period and then created their own cubist portraits.
5th grade eagles studies pop artist and activist Keith Haring and then created color wheels based on his work.
2nd grade eagles studied the Impressionist period and artist Mary Cassatt. They then created a "fancy hat" self portrait based on Cassatt's many portraits of fancy hats.
1st grade eagles studied Al Jazari, the inventor of robots! They then designed a robot of their own.
2nd and 3rd grade eagles learned about pop artist Chris UpHues and then created UpHues hearts of their own.
3rd grade eagles studied ceramicist Kimmy Cantrell and then created abstract masks out of cardboard based on his work.
Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd Grade eagles created in clay to start out 2021 at the nest. Kindergarten created rainbow clouds, 1st grade made pinch pots, and 2nd grade made taco dragons.
English Landing Eagles had artwork on display at the district office during December 2020 and January 2021. Congratulations Eagle artists!

4th grade eagles studied silhouette artist Kara Walker. Students then created a silhouette of their own that expresses identity.
5th grade eagles studied contemporary artist Titus Kaphar and how he remakes famous artworks to show emphasis on overlooked characters from the past. He uses this technique to highlight social issues. Students then remade famous artworks using Paint 3D on their laptops.
Kindergarten Eagles have been hard at work creating for International Dot Day! Here are a few of our youngest artists painting their Dots. I love them, hope you do as well!
It is week three of the 2020-2021 school year and we are kicking things off in 1st grade with some emotion portraits. Social Emotional Learning is so important right now for our Eagles so what better way to tie that into art than by looking at how artists have shown feelings with color throughout history?
Wow what a year! Even though we didn't get to finish all the projects I had hoped to, what we did accomplish was AMAZING! Please check out this quick slideshow of all the projects we did in the art room this year. The art that was chosen was only a small sampling of what you all completed. Great job Eagles!

3rd Grade students looked at the masks of contemporary artist Kimmy Cantrell and applied his use of color and abstract design to create masks of their own. 4th Grade students practiced their weaving skills to create "woven creatures."
4th Grade students focused on contemporary artist Sandra Silberzweig for their portrait unit this year. Silberzweig is known for her use of vibrant colors and patterns in her work. She is also known for having synesthesia, a condition where the senses become crossed. This condition allowed her to see colors in a new way which she was able to express in her art.
3rd Grade students focused on the Fauve artist Henri Matisse this year. We learned all about his use of bright colors and thick, bold black lines in his paintings.
2nd Grade students recently learned about animator and director Tim Burton and created self portraits imitating his style. They worked on proportion and shading techniques.
1st Grade students just finished up their family portraits. They learned about proportions of the human face and body as well as basic perspective principles such as overlapping and placement.

3rd through 5th Grade students created sculptures of giant art supplies in honor of Pop Artist Claes Oldenburg. Oldenburg was best known for his public art of every day objects including the Shuttlecocks on display at the Nelson Atkins Museum of Art.
3rd through 5th Grade students were hard at work creating their Claes Oldenburg Pop Art sculptures the months of November and December.
Kindergarten through 2nd grade students focused on clay in the months of November and December. We learned all about basic clay techniques including slab, coil and pinch pot as well as how to use scoring to join together our clay.
